“These excellent A Level results are a very positive start for the students as they move forward towards their chosen degree courses and employment ventures. Following our “Outstanding School” accolade presented by OFSTED earlier this year, it was a delight to see the evidence of our work in these results and in the smiling faces of students that received their good news this morning. It is a real testament to the effort that the staff and pupils have put in to driving forward the standards in the school, most importantly it is a fair reflection of the emphasis the school has placed on developing its mentoring and support strategies for all students.  This is confirmation for me that Blue Coat Church of England School can build upon these solid foundations as an outstanding school to enhance the life skills of all our students and help them to thrive through academic excellence within a nurturing environment.”

PostHeaderIcon WELCOME TO BLUE COAT CHURCH OF ENGLAND SCHOOL

Dr Julie Roberts : Head TeacherI am delighted to welcome you to our website. Blue Coat Church of England School and Music College is committed to providing a supportive and caring Christian environment where excellent educational provision, outstanding pastoral care and a wide and varied programme of extra-curricular opportunities blend together to create an environment where every individual is valued.

As a Christian School we value the caring ethos and strong set of values and beliefs that pervades all aspects of life at Blue Coat. Encouraging excellence and nurturing talent leads to our winning combination of academic rigour within a caring community. We offer a broad range of high quality educational opportunities which extend teaching and learning both inside and outside the curriculum to create an exciting and stimulating learning community where all are expected to use their intelligence and leadership abilities to contribute constructively to the life of the School.

We are proud that our latest “OUTSTANDING” OFSTED report in February 2010 reported that; “The Coventry Blue Coat Church of England School and Music College is an outstanding and harmonious school that cares very well for all its students. There is a strong culture of continuous improvement, driven by the head teacher, the school’s senior leadership team and the governing body.”

We value academic success highly and we also aim to offer every student within the school an all-round education, developing a range of talents, skills and qualities which will develop leadership potential and provide students with the very best foundation for their future. By offering a wide range of experiences both in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities, we encourage all to reach their full potential. We are proud of our students’ success in gaining places at a wide range of leading universities including Oxford, Cambridge, York, Bristol and London, as well as to prestigious specialist academies for subjects such as music.

With well over 300 students on roll in Sixth Form, Blue Coat provides the widest range of A Level courses of any school in Coventry, including vocational A levels and two BTEC National Diplomas which are each the equivalent of three A levels.  This makes us unique among school sixth forms in the city. There is also an excellent range of extra-curricular subjects including the Young Enterprise Scheme and the Open University Young Applicants in Schools Scheme. Musical opportunities are exceptionally strong, there being a concert band, string orchestra, steel band, jazz group, choir, barber shop and gospel choir, open to Sixth Form students.  Drama productions regularly provide further scope for artistic talents, and both drama and music are benefitting from the new 500-seat theatre.

There is always something new to challenge and develop students` skills no matter where their interests lie. New changing room facilities will be constructed in 2010 and our all weather pitches provide additional recreational facilities. Students are encouraged to undertake appropriate work placements and to go on work insight programmes.  Our last OfSTED report commented that, “An outstanding curriculum ensures that individual needs are met exceptionally well.”

This is a warm and friendly place to be where individual thought and commitment to study are encouraged and we hope the information within this website provides you with some additional details about the curriculum that will be helpful to you. We are always happy to show visitors around and should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
