pshce
In PSHCE lessons pupils explore personal, social & health education, citizenship and careers education. This gives pupils the opportunities to reflect and explore issues which are of immediate concern to them, helping them to adjust to new demands and become more self-reliant.  This department is strongly linked with the school’s Pastoral Programme.

In light of the “Every Child Matters” Agenda, this department places greater emphasis on the Five Strands (i.e. Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy and Achieve, Making a Positive Contribution and Achieve Economic Well-Being).
PSHE – Personal Issues
Across the key stages pupils will explore a range of social and personal issues that are relevant in their personal development. Such issues include hygiene, fitness, smoking, alcohol & other drugs, stress & mental health and sex & relationship education.
Citizenship – Public Issues
Throughout the school, students learn about issues which today come under the heading of citizenship. These issues are not new and involve gaining knowledge & understanding for example of financial management, the role of government, equality, prejudice, human rights, global issues, sustainability, the media, crime & justice and politics. They enjoy a range of outside speakers here from workers from amnesty international to members of the House of Lords.
Careers Education & Guidance
Careers education begins in key stage 3 by encouraging students to examine their strengths, weaknesses and preferences. It goes on to inform them about training and jobs. This aspect also helps students choose options that are right for them as they move out of compulsory education. Coventry and Warwickshire Connexions have an office on site and play a major role in the guidance aspect of careers.

The above aspects of PSHE, Citizenship and Careers are sometimes taught separately, but are often planned together as they are generally inter-related.
