Information & Communication Technology (ICT) forms part of the National Curriculum and is offered to at Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 as a subject in its own right, and across the curriculum to all pupils in subject areas where it is relevant and appropriate.

We expect the highest standards from our pupils both in the quality and quantity of work they produce and also in the way they treat the equipment. IT work should be enjoyable, interesting and enabling for every child and in the department we strive to achieve this at all times.

We operate an 'open door' policy in the department to enable substantial cross curricular work to be developed which enriches the IT experience for all pupils.

There is a range of interesting and innovating work going on across the school. These are continuously being updated and revised with new ideas being piloted regularly. Pupils are encouraged to use the facilities, at lunchtimes and after school, which they certainly do!

Key Stages

Key Stage 3
All pupils have 1½ periods of ICT per week, with all classes being taught by a subject specialist. ICT teaching groups are small enough to guarantee each pupil has access to their own computer during lessons.
Key Stage 4
All pupils have 1½ periods of ICT per week. This allows pupils to complete the OCR Nationals in ICT. This is worth between one and four GCSEs depending on their progress.
Key Stage 5
Pupils can take an AS level course in Applied ICT which continues into a full A level in the second year. This has proved to be a very popular option.

The department  has its own technician and the  IT infrastructure is managed and maintained by two other IT technicians who have a school wide responsibility. This includes the PCs, servers and off site facilities for academic use in addition to the administration network. The facilities have been developed to extend the use of ICT to all areas of the curriculum and to offer electronic delivery of programs, data, music, video and TV throughout the school. The school always endeavours to exceed the requirements for IT as defined by the DfES and to use ICT in an innovative and pioneering manner to the advantage of the pupils and staff.
