CREATING AND SHAPING THE FUTURE
The Technology Department provides pupils with a varied and engaging range of subjects that both challenge and stimulate. The Department aims to develop students who are innovative, creative and who are able to independently solve problems and develop practical solutions.
At KS3 students are given the opportunity to work in a variety of material areas including wood, metal, plastics, textiles and food that introduce them to new skills, knowledge and processes. They are also introduced to electronic circuits and to a variety of graphics skills. CAD and CAM are used extensively throughout the curriculum. This foundation provides students with the basic skills and knowledge to aid their progression if they choose any of the GCSE options listed below.
• Food and Nutrition
• Textiles
• Graphic Products
• Resistant Materials
• Product Design
The New Engineering Diploma is offered to those students with good academic and practical skills and Electronic Products GCSE is being developed ready for first delivery in 2011.
At AS/A2 level students are able to select either Product Design - 3D or Product Design -Textiles
The above courses are delivered by a team of passionate, experienced teachers who are dedicated to giving students the opportunities to succeed. Teaching is carried out in purpose built accommodation that includes two food rooms, one textiles room, one ICT/CAD room and two multi material workshops. CAD/CAM is planned into schemes of work and students independently use these skills and processes to develop and produce their individual design solutions.
The Department offers extracurricular activities that include ‘Passion for Fashion’, Electronics and ‘Photoshop Essentials’. Staff also provide regular lunch time provision for students who want to further develop their class work. These activities encourage and develop student’s knowledge and skills and develop their love of the subject.
Students enjoy the subject and this is shown with the enthusiasm they approach their work with.
It is hoped that the experience that students receive in Technology will be enjoyable, informative and encourage them to become aspiring designers of the future.
