Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care
Mrs Christina Brammeier is responsible for Pastoral Care at Blue Coat.
Like most secondary schools, Blue Coat is a large school and so it is organised so that no-one is lost in a crowd. Each pupil who joins the School becomes a member of a tutor group (form) of about 30 pupils and will be in the continuous care of a Year Head, as well as one form tutor from the time the child enters the School until they leave at the end of Year 11. Each form is named by using the initials of former Bishops of Coventry; Cuthbert Bardsley, Mervyn Haigh, Neville Gorton, John Gibbs, Simon Barrington-Ward.
The Year Head along with the Deputy Year Head and Tutor, is responsible for the welfare of individual pupils. Tutors meet their groups at least once a day. They undertake the routine business connected with attendance, punctuality, uniform, homework and school notices. Once a week the Tutor meets the group for a longer period helping them through various kinds of activities to cope with the demands of school work and relationships with other members of the community. The Tutor will help each pupil to review his or her own progress and record achievements. There will be consultation with the Year Head, the subject tutors and with parents, as the tutor helps the pupil to make the fullest use of the opportunity offered by Blue Coat.
